#8 - The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) Back in 2001 Wes Anderson directed what could be one of his greatest films, The Royal Tenebaums. The movie takes a look at a family that is re-uniting because they are under the impression that their father Royal (an amazing Gene Hackman) is dying. The children were all child prodigies in some field, and now they all have adult issues including loss of love and suicide. The performances are just brillant and the cast doesn't get better, you have: Gene Hackman, Anjelica Houston, Danny Glover, Ben Stiller, Gwyneth Paltrow, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, and Bill Murray,...yeah could be one of the best of the decade right there. Of course the movie know when to be funny but it also does go into some serious and dark places, but with good purpose. The film also looks amazing, the scene of Margot (Paltrow) walking off the bus with that perfect music playing always makes me appreciate the little visuals that Anderson adds to his films. If you want to see a movie that is well written, acted, and can make you laugh and cry go and see the this one, it is a can't miss movie.
