Films in 09

Here are some films I am looking forward to in 2009, in no real order, ok maybe the first few.

Watchmen - I loved the graphic novel, I was really in doubt that they could make the movie well enough to do the comic justice. But then I started seeing the previews and so far so good. The movie looks amazing, at least visually. The preivews cannot help but get you stoked if you are a fan. Look at my previous entry for some of the trailers for Watchmen.

Inglourious Basterds - Is it me or is Bastards, usually with an A? Maybe Quentin Tarantino had to change it to get it in the title? Oh well, Quentin Tarantino's war epic is finally being filmed, what else do you need to be excited? Oh Brad Pitt is the main star, that should make it even better. I think Pitt shined in 08 with his brillant comedy in Burn After Reading and his great overall perforamnce in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The movie should be a mut see in 2009, I just hope that is comepleted on time, i know they are rushing a director who likes to take his damn time.

GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra - So you had your Transformers movie, now its time for my childhood toy to be made into a movie. I grew up worshping GI JOE's, the cartoon series and the toys. I am just hoping that this Stephen Sommers diected movie is fun and full of action. Some people are already questioning the casting and look of the costumes, which is to be expected. I think if the movie does things right it could be enjoyable but something inside of me is saying it might be just average, I guess I will find out.

Fanboys - I have been waiting for this movie for a few years now. Its the story of a group of friends going to Lucas Ranch to steal a copy of Episode I: The Phantom Menace for their friend who has cancer, or at least that one version. The movie has been cut and re-cut so much know one is sure what the film will actually be. I think that the preivews look like pure geek gold. The cast is impressive and I think the movie will be a hit with the star wars nerd and find a cult following on dvd.

Public Enemies - Michael Mann's take on John Dillinger played by Johnny Depp. Oh yeah it also co-stars Christian Bale as the cop on his case...not fucking bad! I just heard about this movie the other day and I am already much looking forward to this. The cast and director seem like an amazing combination. I bet this one will be a big hit and have some pull come next oscars.

Star Trek - I like Star Trek movies and am looking foward to what J.J. Abrams can do with a new younger take on the Trek franchise. I think some of the casting is perfect, I guess the only person I am not sold on is Kirk, but that could change. I first preview was good and I am looking forward to seeing how the handle this and if it starts to spawn a whole new Star Trek craze.

Sherlock Holmes - Robert Downey Jr stars as Sherlock Holmes and its all directed by Guy Ritchie, doesn't sound too bad. I am looking to see how they can make an older character like Holmes still fun to watch. You also get Jude Law as Watson, I do not know too much yet about the movie besides the cast but it seems like if they get a fresh approach on this then it could be something speical.

The Wolf Man - I just hope its better then Wolf! But seriously this movie sounds pretty good. I love the casting of Benicio Del Toro as the Wolfman, i mean the guy looks like Wolfman usually anyway. It's also directed by Joe Johnston whos movies I usually enjoy. I mean just look at this picture, i like the nod to the older style Wolfman, yet it also looks badass! cant wait for this one!

So far 09 is not looking too bad, please feel free to share with me some of the movie you are looking forward to in 09, i know i didn't cover too many movies.

Looks like a promising year. Looking forward to MBV-3D and Piranha-3D! Also Wolfman and Friday the 13th. I guess Tarantino didn't want to confuse his film with the original so he changed a letter. I heard Morricone is doing the soundtrack. I want to see Fanboys too, but it seems like it might be a little dated now.

Man, I'm still trying to see all the 2008 films I've been meaning to.

Basterds, Public Enemies and Wolf Man look promising. I am trying to be optimistic about Watchmen even if the trailer only illicited a mezzo-mezzo vibe from me and especially because I really disliked 300 and the last five minutes of the Dawn of the Dead remake really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Paging through IMDB looks like a lot of crap. Brothers Bloom the new film from the director or Brick looks interesting. And Hotel for Dogs, it's like a normal hotel only, it's for Dogs instead of people!
